In 2020, I attended a lighting workshop with Patrick Le. This pivotal experience deepened my understanding of lighting techniques and transformed my approach to film photography. The workshop introduced me to new ways of manipulating light, whether natural or artificial, in a way that could elevate my imagery, regardless of the time of day or setting. The hands-on approach allowed me to test different scenarios and find what worked for film and digital formats.
Before attending, I hesitated to capture anything on film in challenging lighting conditions. However, after learning various methods to control and shape light—both harsh and soft—I gained the confidence to take my film work to the next level. The ability to adapt these techniques to both film and digital media has since allowed me to become more versatile as a photographer, ensuring I capture stunning moments in any environment.
The skills I developed during Patrick’s Workshop, along with the inspiration and support of fellow creatives, solidified my ability to embrace any lighting challenge. I now confidently approach weddings and intimate sessions, knowing I can craft timeless and artistic images no matter the circumstances. The experience expanded my technical skill set and reinforced my love for storytelling through digital and film formats.
These images from the workshop reflect the balance of mood and light I strive to incorporate into my work. Each moment is carefully captured to tell a meaningful story, whether it’s a soft, romantic glow or dramatic shadow play.
